Would You Pick You to Be Your Best Friend?

14. Be a friend in need
Stop right now and ask yourself...if something horrible happened to you tonight, if you got arrested for a DUI, if your condo flooded and you had to evacuate, if you were stuck in a situation where your life was at risk...who would you call? Do you have somebody, other than a family member, who would actually be there for you in your time of need? Now what about the flip-side? Is there someone with whom you are close enough to that they could call you under similar circumstances? Would you drop everything and go to them or help them or do whatever it took to make their situation better? Only real friends help when the going gets rough. As Oprah once said, "Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down." Well, isn't that the truth! Anybody can be there when times are great. Trouble and turmoil is the time when most people disappear. Real friends step up, indeed.
15. Not all friends are best friends
Ever notice how some people have seven best friends? That's mostly limited to women, since men don't collect friends quite the same. Sometimes jealousy can arise out of friendships when one person thinks of themselves as being everybody's best friend. If you have one designated, special, number one 'bestest' friend in the whole wide world, that’s fine. Remember, a best friend is someone you trust with the key to your house AND your heart. You don't have to rate your friends on a good, better, best scale. As long as the friendship is working the only label necessary is friend. Just go be the best friend you can be to those who are being their best with you. In the end, it's the friendship that will matter.
