4. The core of your being

At the heart of each human being is a core, a center where honesty, trust, goodness, and integrity resides. It is a core that is alive and conscious and exists in the light and is maintained and fed throughout our lifetime by our thoughts and words and deeds. Some of us have a core that has begun to rot and darkness has crept in due to bad choices and selfish decisions. What is at your core? What exists at the center of your being? Look hard. Look deep. There you'll discover who you are. There you'll see the depth and breadth of your being. If you don't like what you see, well, you can add or delete as you go and grow. You can live your life based upon the core you've developed that is yours alone. You don't need laws to tell you where the line is. You have it already etched in your core. Driving across the vast state of Texas you'll see a sign posted over and over: Don't Mess with Texas. It's a sign to let drivers know that if you're caught littering on the highways an immediate $500 fine will follow. That sign wouldn't be necessary if everyone had an unwritten rule about littering branded in their conscious core. That rule stems from your love of the earth and the respect you have for how you live during your brief and temporary stay on the planet. The same principle applies to every other walk of life. Look to your core to follow those principles.

5. Only you know, only you can decide

I did a radio show the last week of December where I talked specifically about what each of us can do, on our own, to improve ourselves for the New Year. One of the hosts admittedly took the devil's advocate stance and said he didn't think people could change, and regardless how good my suggestions or anyone else's were, it wouldn't make any difference. In my work over the years, I've witnessed real and lasting change. I told the host I understood his cynicism, and in some instances he was correct, but he was overlooking the most important element of all. People can and do change when they DECIDE to change. It can't come from without it must come from within. My message is one that helps to point individuals in that direction. Our time was limited on the air but my position was well-taken. If you're not living up to the ultimate you, there is always today to do better. Figure out who you really are. Be genuinely, authentically you. Don't be a fraud or imposter. Be the real deal. Be the real you. It's the only you there will ever be.
