"Champion the right to be yourself; dare to be different and to set your own pattern; live your own life and follow your own star."

-Wilfred Peterson (1900-1995)

Next in the line of shows was The Ultimate Recipe Showdown. Here Guy is strictly the ring leader, master of ceremonies, for each round where people are required to cook their own scrumptious recipes, each vying for the $25,000 prize.

Added to the roster was Guy Off the Hook where he gets to cook real recipes in real time in front of a real live audience. A little like Emeril Live without Doc and the band, Guy uses his humorous flair and funky approach that keeps folks engaged and entertained as only Guy can.

They even have Guy playing Food Network guru in Tailgate Warriors where he joins rabid NFL fans squaring off in, what Bobby Flay might call, a tailgate thrown-down for bragging rights on killer grub.

But holy guacamole, there's more. If he isn't busy enough, Guy's heading to prime time to be front man for a new game show called Minute to Win It coming to NBC. Using only household items, the contestants must perform 10 games that each last 60-seconds. Should they complete all 10 they win $1 million. Part host, part cheerleader, Guy is a perfect match for such a zany concept. My only hope is he'll not stray too far away from his food roots that are at the core of all that is Guy.

It's plain to see that Guy Fieri is living the dream: beautiful wife, two adorable sons, five thriving restaurants, four+ best-selling books, four+ network shows including specials, numerous commercials, and countless appearances. What's more, I'm absolutely certain I've left out something—although who can keep track? The only thing that I would worry for Guy right now is perhaps too much exposure. That seems to be what happens when the powers in charge realize someone is as popular as Guy. They have a tendency to think more is better and overkill begins. I'm guessing Guy is taking full advantage of these once in a lifetime opportunities and his trip to 'Flavortown' will run its due course. All I know is I'm happy for the man. I'm happy that he's out there doing his thing in such an authentic way on such a grand scale. I'm happy for his family and friends who have been his strength and support all along. Unless he has me fooled—and I doubt that he has—I think he IS certifiably the real deal. I think he's a pretty darn good dude, and I just love it when good things happen to good people. He's on a roll, a hot streak. I'm not sure how long this wild ride will last for the guy known to insiders as Guido, but I have a feeling he'll be around for as long as he's allowed to be himself and still have a blast that's too legit to quit.

Pz's Pointers on lessons from Guy

1. Nothing Beats Being You

Guy is one perfect example of what it is to be your own person and the best version of you possible. Nobody ever created can do a better job at being you than you. Guy came to the party as himself. He didn't try to change to become what he thought the Food Network might want him to be. From the first video he and his friends submitted, until now—4 shows later—he hasn't wavered. He's since gone on to solidify his image by remaining true to himself. His fans know that about him and respect him for it. Only you can be your best you. Figure out who that is. If you need some work than get on with it. Work on your weaknesses, improve upon your strengths. If you need a plan get one and get on with it. Stick with your plan, remain on your plane, and go with the flow.
