Where's the Epicness in Your Life?
Original Publication Date:
November 2009
3. Today marks the beginning of forever.
The nation is in a very precarious position at the moment. It's not enough we're in such economic straits and floundering sadly and badly at every turn. On top of that mess, didn't you hear? We're almost out of time. The world, that is. Many are jumping on the 'end is near' bandwagon looking to the 2012 predictions to justify their fears. (Not that the Mayans actually predicted the end in 2012. They didn't. If we want to honor and respect how the Maya think about this, then we would say that the Maya viewed 2012 as a special anniversary of creation, as a time of transformation and renewal. But, of course, all the doomsday and apocalypse theories have sprung from Western concepts projected onto the Maya and are currently alive and well.) Regardless, if you think the earth is coming up on its ultimate destruction, or if you think it's a big massive 'end of the planet' marketing machine—you are still here. As long as you're still here, today marks the beginning of forever for you. What you do with your today sets in motion all of your tomorrows. When you live by the philosophy that each day is all we have and could be our last, whether that takes you up until 2012 or beyond, treat your stay on the earth with the epicness your life deserves.
4. There is epicness in every connection.
Decide that each and every connection you make from here forward will be one with epicness written all over it. Be conscious of your actions and interactions with others. Friends, family, or passing stranger get equal billing. That includes those who would be your enemies or foes, too. Never underestimate the power of one. One person here, one person there, all adds up to a life well-lived, a life worth living. What you put out you do get back. (If you haven't seen evidence of this tenet by now, I'm not sure where you’ve been hibernating!) Good thoughts, good words, good deeds, beget more of the same. I'm not making this stuff up as I go. It's not fancy, trendy, mumbo-gumbo, self-help speak. It is what it is, and when you know it and get it and experience it in action, it, then, becomes a given principle in your life. Not everyone will be as evolved and on your rung of the ladder. That's okay. Meet them where they are. Connect with them as you are able. Plant seeds—leaving little bits of you behind—and somewhere down the road they just might take.
